Help

Getting Started

  • Load a .prst file by dragging it into the editor or clicking "Load preset from disk".
  • Click on an effect slot to adjust parameters. Toggle effects on or off with the LED button. Switch between pedal view and list view.
  • Click "Save preset as file" to download your edited preset as a .prst file.
  • Drag and drop effect slots to reorder the signal chain.
  • Each .prst file contains an author name (max 16 characters). You can view and edit it in the editor.

HX Stomp Import (Experimental)

  • Load a .hlx file from a Line6 HX Stomp. The app automatically converts it to GP-200 format.
  • This feature is experimental. Not all HX Stomp effects have a GP-200 equivalent — unmapped effects are skipped or approximated.
  • Converted presets include effect types, parameters, and signal chain order. Review the result in the editor before saving.

USB MIDI Connection

  • Web MIDI is only supported in Chrome and Edge. Firefox and Safari are not compatible. Chrome also runs on Linux (e.g. Linux Mint) — Preset Forge is the only GP-200 editor with Linux support.
  • Connect your GP-200 via USB and click "Connect GP-200". The browser will ask for permission to access the MIDI device. Progress is shown live (Identity, Firmware Check, Slot Names).
  • Changes in the editor are sent to the device instantly: toggling effects, changing parameters, and reordering the signal chain. The device bar at the top shows the current slot and stays visible while scrolling.
  • Use "Load" to pull a preset from the device. Click "Save to [Slot]" to save your changes directly to the device.
  • Double-click the preset name in the device bar to rename it directly (max 16 characters).

Bank Navigation

  • When you load a preset via USB, the entire bank (A/B/C/D) is loaded. Switch between the four slots using the tabs.
  • Use the arrow buttons on the left and right of the tabs to navigate to the previous or next bank.

Playlists & Cue Points

  • Create playlists with songs for your practice sessions or live performances. Each song can have multiple presets assigned.
  • Select device slots from your GP-200 to associate with each preset in a song. Presets are pushed to the device when activated.
  • Add timed cue points to songs: at a specific timestamp, the app can automatically switch presets or toggle effects on the device.
  • A 3-2-1 count-in is shown before each cue point triggers, so you can prepare for the preset change.
  • If the USB connection drops during a performance, the app will attempt to auto-reconnect without losing your playlist position.

Keyboard Shortcuts

  • Arrow Up / Arrow Down — previous / next song in the playlist player.
  • Arrow Left / Arrow Right — previous / next preset within the current song.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Does Preset Forge work on Linux?

Yes! Preset Forge runs on Linux — tested on Linux Mint. The official Valeton software for the GP-200 does not run natively on Linux. Preset Forge is therefore the only GP-200 editor with true Linux support. For USB MIDI, you need Chrome or Chromium on Linux.

Which browsers are supported?

The editor works in all modern browsers (Windows, macOS, Linux). For USB MIDI connections, Chrome or Edge is required — including on Linux (e.g. Chrome/Chromium on Linux Mint).

Which firmware version is supported?

The app was tested with firmware 1.8.0. Other versions may work but are not officially supported.

What is the .prst format?

The .prst format is the proprietary preset file format of the Valeton GP-200. Each file is exactly 1224 bytes and contains 11 effect slots with up to 15 parameters each.

Does the app work offline?

Yes — Preset Forge is a PWA and works offline for editing presets. Gallery, profile, and playlist features require an internet connection.

Can I import Line6 HX Stomp presets?

Yes, experimentally. Load a .hlx file in the editor and the app will convert it to GP-200 format. Not all effects have a direct equivalent, so check the result.
